“Viva La Vida” is a song by Coldplay, who also did “Yellow” and “Clocks.” I don’t listen to the radio, except in the car, so I didn’t know about this song until my partner asked me to put it on a CD I was making for her. Sometime after that I was listening to it in the car, and it stuck in my mind. I looked up the lyrics and played it over and over until I could sing the whole song.
The video for it is interesting — I especially like the “cracked paint” look — but to me, the lead singer’s movements are distracting and not appropriate to the song.
Strangely enough, the song makes me think about Showtime’s series The Borgias. I’m not sure why, but I see Lucrezia and Cesaré and Rodrigo, in little clips of certain scenes, when I hear the song. Pope Alexander VI was one of the most corrupt Popes ever, and sometimes I cringe at the actions of the various members of the Borgia family. Of course, I don’t know how much of the show is true because there is so much dramatic license, just as in The Tudors. (photos from jeremyirons.net)
